安迪（塞斯·罗根 Seth Rogen 饰）是一个旅行爱好者，目前，他正在兴致勃勃的准备着他的第一次公路之旅。一个人的旅程难免空虚寂寞，选择谁成为自己的旅伴成为了安迪首当其冲需要解决的问题。安迪的朋友不多，无奈之下，他只得把目光放在了自己的母亲乔伊斯（芭芭拉·史翠珊 Barbra Streisand 饰）的身上。
刚刚上路，安迪就意识到自己犯了一个巨大的错误，乔伊斯的专制和自大让安迪感到忍无可忍，两人的关系几欲破裂。但是，随着时间的流逝，安迪渐渐开始发现，自己与母亲并非冰火那般无法共存，相同的基因让两人之间始终维持着血脉相通的亲切。在乔伊斯的鼓励和帮助下，安迪也渐渐找到了人生的方向。
