《吸血鬼日记》由美国女作家L.J.史密斯的同名畅销系列小说改编而成。 父母遭遇车祸，Elena（妮娜·杜波夫 Nina Dobrev 饰）和弟弟Jeremy搬去与唯一的监护人阿姨Jenna一起生活。在好友Bonnie、Caroline的帮助下，Elena的生活步入正轨， 而Jeremy则用毒品来麻痹内心的伤痛。新学期开始，学校来一个英俊的转校生Stefan（保罗·韦斯利 Paul Wesley 饰），他和Elena彼此一见倾心，但心底也埋藏着一个黑暗的惊天秘密——他是个吸血鬼。在Elena还不能完全接受真相时，Stefan的吸血鬼哥哥Damon（伊恩·萨默海尔德 Ian Somerhalder 饰）也不期而至，而他的出现也带着不可告人的目的。此时Bonnie也告诉Elena一个秘密——她其实是一个女巫。吸血鬼、女巫，平静的小镇生活即将被打破......
